Job Description

Summary Dobbs Equipment is seeking an experienced Shop Service Technician. Technicians are responsible for the repair, diagnosis, overhaul, and reconditioning maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment and components. Depending on location and assignment, the technician will be responsible for some or all of the functions and duties listed below. These repairs may require working hours beyond the normal schedule for emergency calls or routine service. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Follow all safety rules and regulations while maintaining a safe work environment and work habits. Recondition, repair, service, and assemble any machines or industrial equipment. Diagnose problems and determine needed repairs. Perform any required inspections. Check and report shortages and malfunctions to the Service Manager. Maintain records and account for all time, parts, and supplies used in servicing equipment. Handle customer problems objectively and tactfully. Assist in directing work of helpers or trainees and provide instructions as required. Perform efficient dis‑assembly and inspection so parts can be ordered and work scheduled. Execute all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager, Supervisor, or Shop Foreman. Prepare all required reports and forms. Report additional work needed for proper operation and safety of equipment to the Service Manager. Participate in service training programs to develop skills and knowledge. Maintain a clean work area and work neatly and orderly. Alert the Service Manager to any shop tools, equipment, or vehicles that are unsafe or not serviceable. Represent the dealership as a professional Service Technician at all times. Operate trucks and equipment with extreme care and caution. Maintain shop tools, equipment, vehicles, and other employees’ belongings. Report to work on time, as scheduled. Work up to 12‑hour days, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed. Operate company vehicles and follow all motor‑vehicle state safety laws when necessary. Adhere to safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and client organizations. Safety policies of Dobbs are a condition of employment and everyone’s responsibility. Qualifications Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and operation. Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures. Ability to operate heavy equipment safely around the shop. Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or a minimum of 2 years related experience (preferred). Stay current with technical changes. Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Maintain current product knowledge of John Deere and competitive products. Forklift certification (preferred). Effective communication with teammates. Strong problem‑solving skills. Excellent time‑management skills. Self‑management and self‑motivation. Flexible schedule, including possible weekends or overtime. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write diagnoses and complete routine reports and correspondence. Common‑sense application of written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions. Developed skills in disassembly, assembly, and repair of components and machines. Basic arithmetic ability in all units of measure. Quick learner who can think creatively.
