Summer Camp Director Forest Lake Camp, Chestertown, NY – Reports to: Executive Director Roles and Responsibilities General Camp Responsibilities Act as a team player as part of the Forest Lake Camp Administrative staff to further the mission and principles of Forest Lake Camp. Work independently to provide strong leadership in support of FLC’s strategy. Offer input and creative ideas that will enhance the experience of our campers and support the overall Forest Lake Camp brand. Strive to develop and grow personally and professionally through professional development Act as a key part of the FLC Executive Team in developing strategy and programming for the summer camp business. Attend (virtually or in person) off season team gatherings. Act as a key liaison to our alumni to maintain strong bonds with our alumni community Support the development and provide input to other Forest Lake Camp business units beyond summer camp. Summer Camp Lead the development and coordination of all aspects of the FLC summer camp experience. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: Oversee the development and execution of all camp programming including the Leader in Training (LIT) program and Wilderness programs ensuring they provide valuable leadership skills and experiences for participants with a focus on fulfilling FLC’s long‑term mission and goals. Direct the overall camper experience at FLC including all aspects of the program, activity excellence and cabin life. Work closely with Executive Director and Director of Marketing and Sales to gather appropriate feedback from parents, campers and staff and implement change when necessary. Act as lead for ‘parent management’ during any disciplinary or health related issues for campers. Direct our Family Camp, including program planning, staff coordination, and ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees. Act as the on‑site operational director for summer camp to ensure camp operations run smoothly and efficiently. Lead the requirements necessary to maintain compliance with all NY State Department of Health Licensing and ACA regulations. Maintain key relationship with outside vendors including contract management. This includes but is not limited to contracts for horses, vans, boating, and rafting. Work closely with the Director of Finance and the Executive Director in supporting the building of the annual summer camp budget and manage camp to adhere to the established budget. Assist the Director of Finance as needed to build intra‑year forecasts in support of the responsible fiscal management of camp. Sales and Marketing Support the Director of Enrollment and Marketing in all efforts to recruit new campers to Forest Lake Camp including direct sales initiatives, in‑person events and social media and other marketing efforts. Work closely with the Director of Enrollment and Marketing in all efforts focused on veteran campers returning each summer. Lead the recruitment efforts for international campers (new and returning veterans) and alumni campers with assistance from the Director of Enrollment and Marketing. Staffing and Staff Management Lead the recruitment, hiring, and training process for summer staff. This includes working with recruiting agents when needed. Conduct mid‑season and end‑of‑season staff evaluations, providing constructive feedback and coaching. Prepare for and conduct staff meetings, and communicate staff needs and areas for improvement. Provide overall management for all summer camp staff including managing appropriate rewards and recognition as well as management of discipline issues. Provide direct management of Head Counselors, Nursing Staff and other Day Staff who oversee various aspects of camp life. Support the management of the kitchen staff. Coordinate staff events, activities, and other efforts to keep morale high. $55,000-$65,000 plus 401k match, health, paid vacation, commission and profit share.
